We found this great 1980's sweatshirt on a recent European buying trip, and instantly fell in love with it! The pullover sweatshirt is in a flattering soft pink and it features a satin applique of a clown playing a drum. The word Maschere is embroidered below the applique. This Italian made top is so unique and represents an important part of Italian cultural history!
Maschere means Masks in Italian and almost every Italian town has its own maschera with its own unique personality. Carnivals in Italy can be traced back as far as the Middle Ages and because the attendees wore masks, it was the only time that the population, regardless of status, could mix and mingle without anyone knowing if they were peasants or royalty.
Excellent Condition.
