This is a vintage 1920s evening cloak or cape made by a New York millinery importer called “Florette”. This 1920s evening cloak is made of black velvet above the waistline and a ruched woven fabric below it. The woven fabric appears to be a mix of gold metallic thread and black silk. There are two openings to allow the arms to come through that are edged with black velvet panels that emanate out from the body. The velvet is gathered on and under the collar so as to create a draped effect. The collar is rounded and can be worn up to create a more dramatic look. The interior is lined in cream coloured silk. This 1920s evening cloak closes with three hooks and eyes.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this 1920s evening cloak should fit a small to medium size. Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the outside:

Condition: This 1920s evening cloak is in very good condition with the exception of a fray to the lining in the area above the label (see close-up photo). The lining is silk and, although intact, is old, so care is advised to avoid future deterioration (do not store in an overly dry environment). Note that the lining may “hang” slightly outside of the exterior fabric. There are a few thread pulls on the woven bottom part and maybe some tarnish to the metallic in places, but this is quite minor and shouldn’t bother anyone. Finally, the bottom hook is loose - you might want to add hooks so that the cape closes better. Otherwise, the exterior of this 1920s evening cloak appears to be strong and free of pronounced wear or any soiling, staining or tearing.
